In order to keep our NHS going we need to work together to make the most of the resources that we have. The NHS needs your help and support, working with your GP to make changes now.
NHS Stockport has asked your GP practice to reduce the amount spent on prescribed medication by prescribing from an approved local list of medications. This list of medications have the most long term evidence of effectiveness and are better value for the NHS.
These changes are because of the savings that need to be made across the National Health Service. Nationally the NHS needs to save approximately £15billion to £20billion between 2011 and 2014. In Stockport this means that around £23million needs to be saved. We are reviewing patientsí medications and may ask you to change to one which is cheaper but just as effective as your current medication.
In addition you can help us by ensuring you only order medications which you actually need at the time. If a chemist orders your medication and you are receiving too much of any of it then please let them and us know
